What's for Dinner?

So – What’s for Dinner? In this week’s episode of The Kingdom Corner, Matt Geib builds on last episode’s discussion on man’s dependance on the Word of God.

[00:03:50 Reiterating the fundamental point of the last episode, Matt cites Jesus when He was tempted by Satan that, “Man cannot live on bread alone.”

[00:05:22] Matt reminds us that, to the Hebrews, bread was synonymous with food – with sustenance and nutrition, not just a specific food group or dish.

[00:06:30] John 4:31-34; Jesus refers to the will of God the Father and the message given from Him as His “food”.

[00:07:59] Matt notes the way that our diet shapes who we are, discussing how some foods are harmful to our bodies while others can actually reduce the aging process and build our bodies to be stronger. He draws a parallel with physical food and many of the other, mental and spiritual ‘foods’ that we take in such as media and social streams.

[00:10:21] Job 23:12; “I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than necessary food”.

[00:12:29] Luke 24:30 and onward; Matt unpacks the story of Jesus on the road to Emmaus – as Jesus expounds about His identity from the Scriptures beginning with Moses over roughly seven miles, stopping for dinner, where the disciples’ eyes were opened to see who He truly was.

[00:17:23] Matt discusses God’s desire – from stories in 1 Kings to the parable of the talents – for each person to give even what little bit they may have of themselves and their talent/gift, that He might multiply it for His purposes.

[00:19:30] Matt reminds us of Jeremiah’s phrasing when he says that, “the words were given to me and I did eat them…” (Jer. 15:16) Then again in Revelation when John is instructed to “eat this scroll”, consuming the Words of God.

[00:20:01] “God wants to give you a word to EAT that will bring you joy, hope, and rejoicing.”

[00:23:22] Looking back to John 6 when Jesus fed 5,000, Matt cites Jesus’ admonition to the people who followed Him seeking more food for their bellies, while He is trying to point the world to the life-giving bread of the Father that is Himself. “”
